Washington, DC – Congressman Tony Gonzales (TX-23) joined Reps: Van Duyne, Fallon, Jackson, and Pfluger on Wednesday in sending a letter to Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton affirming their commitment to working with the Attorney General’s Office on ensuring Texas has the federal resources needed to combat voter fraud.

“We can work together at the federal and state level to ensure we have the necessary resources to stop attempts of voter fraud in the future,” said Congressman Gonzales. “I’m ready to work with the State of Texas to make sure they have the funds and tools they need to have the most secure election system in the country.”

Text of Letter to Attorney General Paxton Below:

“First and foremost, as new members of Texas’s congressional delegation, we want to express our appreciation to you and your office for your efforts in prosecuting voter fraud and safeguarding elections in the State of Texas. While there are several uncertainties surrounding the 2020 election, one thing is for certain: irregularities and unconstitutional power grabs have led millions of Americans – including many Texans – to question both the integrity and the outcome of the presidential election. We believe, through state enforcement efforts and Federal support to local and state election officials, we can safeguard our elections and regain voter trust.

Over the last year, our nation witnessed both election fraud and election irregularities at the local, state and Federal levels. The prosecution of such crimes is critical to ensure illegal votes are not counted. Last year, for example, a Carrollton mayoral candidate was arrested on 134 counts of mail ballot fraud and a Limestone County social worker in a state supported living center was arrested for attempting to register residents to vote without their consent. Your office has successfully prosecuted over 500 election fraud offenses since 2004, and we want to ensure you and other state attorneys general have the resources and support they need from Congress to effectively enforce election laws on the books and build public trust in our electoral system.

Our democratic system was crafted by our Founding Fathers to ensure each and every law-abiding citizen has a constitutional right to vote, a right that Texans take great pride in exercising at the ballot box. As the newest members of Texas’s congressional delegation, we want to offer our full assistance and cooperation in aiding your ongoing efforts to protect election integrity to ensure the people we represent have full confidence that their legal vote counts. In the spirit of working toward that mutual goal, we hope you will let our offices know how the 117th Congress can encourage the prosecution of election crimes across the country and uplift and support our state counterparts in regaining the American people’s trust through accurate and fair Federal elections.

Thank you again for your work in safeguarding our nation’s democracy.”

Sincerely,

Congresswoman Beth Van Duyne
Congressman Ronny Jackson
Congressman Pat Fallon
Congressman Tony Gonzales
Congressman August Pfluger
