  1. Project Name: Bexar County Sheriff’s Office Animal Cruelty Investigations Unit
    • Awarded Amount: $82,000
    • This funding will help the Sheriff’s Office procure more equipment for their Animal Cruelty Investigations Unit, such as kennels and laptops. It will also help pay for employee training/professional development at the Animal Cruelty Investigations School.

  2. Project Name: Bridging the Gap to Essential Behavioral Health Services in Rural and Frontier South Central and West Texas Through an Inpatient Psychiatric Facility in Uvalde, Texas
    • Awarded Amount: $2,000,000
    • Funding for this project would be used to construct a state-of-the-art psychiatric hospital in Uvalde, Texas (Texas U.S. Congressional District 23) to address the absence of inpatient psychiatric beds and services for a significant portion of rural and frontier Texas that stretches from the Bexar County line (San Antonio) to the Texas/Mexico border spanning from Del Rio, Texas to Laredo. The hospital will consist of a total of three 16-bed wings with two 32-bed wings dedicated to serving adults ages 18 and older, and one 16-bed wing serving youth ages 12-17. The facility is designed to add an additional fourth 16-bed wing if the need exists and funding becomes available.

    • Project Name: Del Rio F.O.B. Tiny Homes for Veterans
      • Awarded Amount: $1,000,000
      • Val Verde County alone is home to over 4,500 veterans. Federal funds would assist veterans in the greater Val Verde County region struggling with severe housing instability. These funds would allow them to maintain a life of dignity through custom, high-quality housing solutions and empowerment training programs.

    • Project Name: Island Main Lateral Concrete Lining Project
      • Awarded Amount: $798,140
      • The funding would be used for installing 21,240 feet of fiber-reinforced shotcrete on an earthen canal section used to deliver water to approximately 9,800 acres of farmland. The project would conserve approximately 928 acre-feet of water annually which is currently lost to seepage and will allow farmers in the hot, dry area to transfer irrigation water from one agricultural operation to another sourced by their own groundwater wells.

    • Project Name: Maverick County Diabetes Access and Wellness Network (DAWN)
      • Awarded Amount: $500,000
      • Intended Recipient: Maverick County Hospital District
      • Maverick County ranks in the top third of counties for diabetes prevalence in Texas. Funding for DAWN will be used to increase access to Diabetes Self-Management Education services through telehealth service expansion and through the launch of a digital Community Health Information Exchange (CHIE). Using CHIE technology, a Patient Coordinator, three Site Coordinators and other regional health care and social service sites will be able to navigate patients to health care services, and other services that address the social determinants of health care such as transportation and nutrition services.

    • Project Name: Medina Senior Center
      • Awarded Amount: $562,500
      • The current Medina Senior Center infrastructure is from the 1940’s and operates out of the old Hondo, TX Regional Airport. The facility is infested with asbestos and faulty infrastructure. The organization is seeking funds for a new facility, and land has already been acquired at the county’s cost. The Medina County Senior Center operates with an Executive Director and Board of Directors to provide meals to eligible senior citizens through their Meals on Wheels partnership.

    • Project Name: San Antonio Police Department Mental Health Unit Expansion
      • Awarded Amount: $1,000,000
      • Intended Recipient: San Antonio Police Department
      • The funding would be used to create weekend coverage for the SAPD Mental Health Unit. Currently the MHU hours of operation are Monday through Friday 7:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. After 5:00 p.m. and on weekends, there is no personnel available to assist patrol with any of the 20,682 mental health related calls for service the San Antonio Police Department received at night and on weekends in 2020. This Funding would allow an additional 5 clinicians and overtime hours to allow SAPD MHU officers to work on the weekends. With this funding, the MHU will be available to assist on upwards of 6,984 mental health related calls that come in on the weekends, or over 25% of total mental health related calls. This will greatly increase the unit’s effectiveness and overall ability to assist patrol.

      • Awarded Amount: $1,000,000
      • Intended Recipient: Sul Ross State University
      • The funding would be used to continue to expand efforts to research and preserve areas of historical significance in the Chihuahuan Desert which are known to have played a major role in the development of Native American and other societies throughout Texas and the entire southwest, including prehistoric sites which have enabled advances in the core understanding of human development.

      • Existing Camp Bullis vehicle maintenance facilities include a maintenance shop constructed in 1945, portable buildings, and shipping containers. If funding for this project is not provided, vehicle mechanics will be forced to continue performing maintenance functions in temporary facilities that are severely crowded, inadequate, and substandard, which create conditions that are unsafe and expose maintenance operations to inclement weather. These conditions result in nonproductive time, impair the effective employment of skilled personnel, and adversely affect mission training.

      • Intended Recipient: Joint Base San Antonio
      • The U.S. Air Force has identified this project as one of its top 4 priority Military Construction Projects. In a report to Congress, the Air Force stated that demand for childcare exceeds the Air Force’s capacity. As of February 2021, there were 5,116 children with an unmet need for care. The average wait time to place a child is 151 days.
