WASHINGTON, D.C. – Congressman Tony Gonzales (TX-23) on Thursday sent a letter to Department of Homeland Security (DHS) Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas, urging him to take immediate action regarding the migrant site at the International Bridge in Del Rio.

“This is a national security issue and a humanitarian crisis that is visible on an international scale,” said the letter. “To prevent it from deteriorating, I urge you to take immediate action by deploying the necessary number of agents and resources needed to contain this crisis. I also request that your agency provide my office with a written record of its plan to manage the ongoing influx.”

On Thursday morning, Congressman Gonzales visited the site and met with border patrol agents for updates on the ongoing situation. As of Friday morning, the location reached over 12,000 migrants, with reports of more people expected to arrive from the interior of Mexico.
