Our nation’s farmers and ranchers are crucial to our nation’s food supply. Without these hardworking Americans, our nation would be required to be fully dependent on other nations to meet critical food needs. Through my work on the House Appropriations Committee, I am able to secure funding to support farmers and ranchers. This includes funding for research to protect livestock – cattle fever tick research, chronic wasting disease research and management, and feral swine damage management – and directs the Secretary of the United States Department of Agriculture to study the feasibility of increasing reimbursements for property damages to landowners along the border related to illegal migrant trespassing.
I introduced the HIRE Act to support our farmers and ranchers to find reliable labor and help them navigate the H-2A and H-2B systems. Without adequate labor, our farmers risk losing the crops that feed and clothe the United States.
