Washington, D.C. – The For Country Caucus, a bipartisan group of military veterans, today announced its endorsement of H.R. 2454 – U.S.-Israel PTSD Collaborative Research Act. This legislation, introduced by For Country Caucus Members Congressman Mike Waltz (FL-06) and Congressman Pat Ryan (NY-18), aims to build on the caucus’s investment in veterans' mental health care and resources. This legislation would establish a grant program for American universities and private non-profits to work with Israeli counterparts to research PTSD under a joint research agreement, leveraging the assets and experiences of both countries.
“Far too many of those who served this country are plagued by flashbacks, nightmares, and intrusive thoughts,” said For Country Caucus Co-Chairs, Congressmen Tony Gonzales (TX-23) and Jason Crow (CO-06). “According to the VA, more than one out of every ten veterans who served across all major U.S. conflicts in the last 50 years experienced PTSD at some point in their life. We must do more to help our servicemembers and veterans. By harnessing the experiences of U.S. and Israeli veterans and strengthening PTSD research, we can continue to invest in the wellbeing of our veterans and find better solutions to the issues they face upon returning home from service."
“Serving in combat changes you and the mental scars of combat are just as challenging as the physical ones.” said Representative Waltz. “I’d like to thank my colleagues in the For Country Caucus, all fellow veterans, who fully understand the importance of this issue and that we should leverage every tool possible to help our warfighters and their families heal and adjust to civilian life.”
“During and after my two combat tours in Iraq, I saw firsthand the impact of PTSD on my brothers and sisters in arms,” said Representative Ryan. “We simply have to do more for those who have sacrificed so much for this country. I proudly introduced this crucial legislation, which dedicates desperately needed resources to researching and treating PTSD, alongside my fellow For Country Caucus member Congressman Waltz. Together, we will help deliver the best-in-class care that our service members deserve.”

Co-Chaired by Congressman Tony Gonzales (TX-23) and Congressman Jason Crow (CO-06), the bipartisan For Country Caucus provides principled military veteran members the opportunity to work together across party lines to pass thoughtful legislation in national security, veterans affairs, and national service. Since its founding in 2019, the caucus has advocated for a less polarized Congress that works for — and is trusted by — Americans.
