WASHINGTON — This morning the For Country Caucus proudly hosted a Vietnam Veterans Memorial cleaning with Congressman Mike Waltz (FL-06) and the National Park Service in honor of Memorial Day.
"More than 58,000 names are engraved on the walls of the Vietnam Veterans Memorial," said For Country Caucus Co-Chairs Congressmen Tony Gonzales (TX-23) and Jason Crow (CO-06) and Vice Chairs Congresswomen Mariannette Miller-Meeks (IA-01) and Mikie Sherrill (NJ-11) in a joint statement. "They are a reminder of the cost of war and a pledge by our nation to never forget the weight of the sacrifices of those it commemorates. It's an honor to maintain these walls so we can ensure they are preserved for decades to come. We feel privileged to come together across party lines this morning with our fellow military veterans serving in the House of Representatives to memorialize the fallen. As veterans, we understand the true value of our national war and veterans’ memorials. They’re spaces where veterans can go to be understood, families can go to heal, new generations can go to learn, and we can all go to unite.
“This Memorial Day we not only remember the sacrifices of those who gave their lives but also of those families they left behind. As a caucus, we’re focused year-round on doing right by our Gold Star Families. We hope you join us in finding time this weekend to reflect on those we've lost and to support those who have lost."
The For Country Caucus is a bipartisan group of 28 military veterans committed to furthering thoughtful, collaborative legislation in national security, national service, and veterans’ affairs.
