Washington, D.C. – For Country Caucus Co-Chairs, Congressmen Tony Gonzales (TX-23) and Jason Crow (CO-06), and former For Country Caucus Co-Chair, Congressman Jared Golden (ME-02) released the following statement regarding today’s announcement from President Joe Biden that the U.S. will support a joint international effort to train Ukrainian pilots on fourth generation fighter aircraft, including F-16s.
“Since the outset of the war last year, For Country Caucus members have pushed to supply Ukraine with the tools it needs to win. We must provide Kyiv with the air support capability it requires to fully defend itself,” Congressmen Gonzales, Crow, and Golden said in a joint statement. “Today’s announcement is a critical step forward to strengthen the Ukrainian Air Force and ensure it can protect its citizens and ground forces from Russian aggression. We urge the administration to work closely with our allies and partners to expedite this training so we can get well-trained pilots and aircraft to the battlefield as quickly as possible.”
Earlier this week, members of the For Country Caucus led a bipartisan letter to the president urging the administration to provide Ukraine with F-16 Fighting Falcon fighter aircraft. For Country Caucus members have been leaders in supporting Ukraine since Russia’s unprovoked invasion in February 2022. They have repeatedly called for comprehensive aid packages for Ukraine, urging the Administration to help bolster Ukraine’s air defense and artillery capabilities, transfer modern aircraft, and provide other necessary defense materiel to the nation.

Since its founding in 2019, the caucus has advocated for a less polarized Congress that works for — and is trusted by — Americans.
