Washington, D.C. – The For Country Caucus, a bipartisan group of military veterans, today announced its endorsement H.R. 3392 – the Fighter Force Preservation and Recapitalization Act of 2023. This legislation, introduced by For Country Caucus member and former Co-Chair Rep. Don Bacon (NE-02), would require the Air National Guard to have at least 25 fighter aircraft squadrons, each with a minimum of 18 primary authorized aircraft. If passed, this legislation would ensure the continued service of Air National Guard fighter squadrons during Air Force modernization efforts.
"To stay mission ready, we must support Air National Guard modernization and recapitalization,” said For Country Caucus Co-Chairs, Congressmen Tony Gonzales (TX-23) and Jason Crow (CO-06). “Our Air National Guard is responsible for 94 percent of homeland defense missions. We must pass the Fighter Force Preservation and Recapitalization Act to preserve and protect these critical National Guard fighter squadrons.”
“Americas Air Force is currently the oldest and smallest in its history and is poised to make further reductions to its tactical aircraft fleets,” said Rep Don Bacon of the House Armed Services Committee. “With active conflicts in Europe, the Middle East and rapidly growing threats to the Homeland and the Indo-Pacific, the United States requires a minimum fighter force structure in the Air National Guard to ensure our control of the air domain and ability to support the joint force. The Fighter Force Preservation and Recapitalization Act unites members of Congress on both side of the aisle and I am grateful for the For Country Caucus’ endorsement of H.R. 3392.”
This legislation currently has 25 cosponsors including For Country Caucus Co-Chairs Congressmen Crow (CO-06) and Gonzales (TX-23) as well as caucus members Congressmen James (MI-10), Waltz (FL-06), and Bergman (MI-01). It is endorsed by seven organizations and individuals including the National Guard Association of the U.S., Enlisted National Guard Association of the U.S., Iowa National Guard Officers Association, Maj. Gen. Michael Garshak Adjutant General of Idaho, and Maj. Gen. Kerry Muehlenbeck, Arizona National Guard Adjutant General.
