Washington, D.C. – The For Country Caucus, a bipartisan group of military veterans, today announced its endorsement of H.Res.616 expressing support for the people of Afghanistan, condemning the Taliban's assault on human rights and the specific targeting of women, girls, and members of religious and ethnic minorities. This resolution, introduced by Afghanistan veteran and For Country Caucus Co-Chair, Congressman Jason Crow (CO-06), continues the caucus’s work to support our Afghan allies and combat Taliban led human rights abuses.
“The Taliban continues to violate the basic human rights of the Afghan people, targeting women and girls, religious and ethnic minorities, and other vulnerable populations, with gross human rights abuses. It is on us to condemn this behavior and not look away,” said For Country Caucus Co-Chairs, Congressmen Tony Gonzales (TX-23) and Jason Crow (CO-06). “As a nation, we invested more than two decades into fostering stability in the region. The Taliban’s edicts undermine hope for stability and worsen humanitarian and economic crises. It is our responsibility to honor our promises and support our Afghan allies.”
“After two decades of freedom from Islamist oppression, Afghans now live under a brutal Taliban regime and are suffering every day. Americans have a duty to call out repression across the world especially as it relates to the Taliban’s repression against women’s rights, girls’ schools, and religious minorities,” said Afghanistan veteran and For Country Caucus member Congressman Mike Waltz (FL-06).
For Country Caucus members Reps. Baird (IN-04), Carbajal (CA-24) Davis (NC-01), Gonzales (TX-23), LaLota (NY-01), McCormick (GA-06), Moulton (MA-06), and Nunn (IA-03) joined as cosponsors of the resolution. Congressman Waltz joined as an original cosponsor.

Co-Chaired by Congressman Tony Gonzales (TX-23) and Congressman Jason Crow (CO-06), the bipartisan For Country Caucus provides principled military veteran members the opportunity to work together across party lines to pass thoughtful legislation in national security, veterans affairs, and national service. Since its founding in 2019, the caucus has advocated for a less polarized Congress that works for — and is trusted by — Americans.
