Washington, D.C. – The For Country Caucus, a bipartisan group of military veterans, today announced its endorsement H.R. 6524 – the Federal Cybersecurity Workforce Expansion Act. This legislation was introduced by For Country Caucus member Congresswoman Chrissy Houlahan (PA-06) alongside former caucus member Congressman Mike Gallagher. This legislation would create two cybersecurity apprenticeship training programs, within the Department of Veterans Affairs and the Department of Homeland Security, to strengthen U.S. cyber defenses and the cybersecurity workforce. One of these programs is specifically designed to recruit and train members of the Armed Forces transitioning from military service to civilian and veteran life.
“Cybersecurity workforce shortages leave our nation vulnerable to cyber threats, and we must invest in training to bolster our national security,” said For Country Caucus Co-Chairs, Congressmen Tony Gonzales (TX-23) and Jason Crow (CO-06). “This bill enables us to do just that by investing in our veterans and providing them with vital cybersecurity skills as they re-enter the civilian workforce.”
“Cyber-attacks will continue, and we must respond accordingly to protect businesses, sensitive personal data, and ultimately our national security. Security breaches have far-reaching implications – small businesses may have to halt operations, Pennsylvanians could have their identity stolen, or worse. To counter this threat, we must have a strong workforce ready to protect our nation's data and information," said Congresswoman Houlahan. "Thank you to the For Country Caucus for endorsing this bill. Our bipartisan, bicameral bill will help train the next generation of cyber defense professionals and protect our national security. I look forward to this bill becoming law and appreciate the Caucus' support in getting it there.”
This legislation currently has 18 cosponsors in the House of Representatives including For Country Caucus members Congressmen Seth Moulton (MA-06), Don Davis (NC-01), Morgan Luttrell (TX-08), and Zach Nunn (IA-03). It is endorsed by the Cyber Bytes Foundation.
