Washington, D.C. –The For Country Caucus, a bipartisan group of military veterans, today announced its endorsement H.R. 6373 – the Veterans Spinal Trauma Access to New Devices (STAND) Act. This legislation, introduced by For Country Caucus member Congressman Jack Bergman (MI-01), aims to improve care for veterans with spinal cord injuries/disabilities (SCI/D). It directs the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) to conduct veteran outreach, complete annual spinal health assessments, and expand access to exoskeletons and other assistive devices.
“Our veterans deserve access to the best care and treatments available,” said For Country Caucus Co-Chairs, Congressmen Tony Gonzales (TX-23) and Jason Crow (CO-06). “The VA has an important role to play in this, and should be reaching out and following up with these veterans to make care as accessible as possible. These veterans fought for this country – they shouldn’t have to fight through red tape to receive the care they earned.”
“Those who have stood in harm’s way, willing to give their last full measure of devotion to our country, shouldn’t have to fight for the resources they now require to STAND. I’m grateful that my fellow Veterans on the For Country Caucus are supportive of my bill to expand access to technologies like powered exoskeletons for our Nation’s heroes,” said Congressman Jack Bergman.
This legislation currently has 24 cosponsors including For Country Caucus members Congressmen Davis (NC-01), James (MI-10), and Deluzio (PA-17). It is endorsed by Paralyzed Veterans of America, Disabled American Veterans, and the Independence Through Enhancement of Medicare and Medicaid Coalition.
