Washington, D.C. – The For Country Caucus, a bipartisan group of military veterans, today announced its endorsement of H.R. 3085 - the Coast Guard Combat Injured Tax Fairness Act. This legislation was introduced by For Country Caucus member Rep. Don Davis (NC-01) and co-led by caucus member Rep. Don Bacon (NE-02). It aims to ensure all Coast Guard servicemembers receive the benefits they earned in service. The legislation would address a loophole which currently prevents Coast Guard veterans from receiving the tax break afforded to other combat-injured veterans of other service branches by amending the Combat-Injured Veterans Tax Fairness Act of 2016 to apply to Coast Guard veterans.
“We ask our servicemembers to give everything to the mission when they serve. In turn, we must deliver on our promise to serve them,” said For Country Caucus Co-Chairs, Congressmen Tony Gonzales (TX-23) and Jason Crow (CO-06). “That includes delivering the benefits they earned in full, and this legislation works to ensure that Coast Guard veterans are given much-deserved tax relief just like every other branch of our military.”
“Our courageous service members are the backbone of our nation, and the Coast Guard Combat-Injured Tax Fairness Act will ensure that Coast Guard veterans receive equal benefits as their counterparts,” said Congressman Don Davis. “It's essential to bridge this gap so our U.S. Coast Guard veterans can receive the full benefits they deserve.”
