Washington, D.C. – The For Country Caucus, a bipartisan group of military veterans, today announced its endorsement of H.R. 4518 – Veterans Caregiver Application and Appeals Reform (CARE) Act. This legislation, introduced by For Country Caucus Member Congressman Don Davis (NC-01), aims to improve the Program of Comprehensive Assistance for Family Caregivers (PCAFC), also known as the Caregivers Program. The legislation would allow Veterans Service Organizations (VSOs) and other accredited agents to advocate for disabled veterans and require the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) to employ qualified medical specialists to evaluate applications and provide more detailed information in denial letters.
“The success and accessibility of the VA Caregiver Program is critical to properly serving those who put their lives on the line for this nation in military service,” said For Country Caucus Co-Chairs, Congressmen Tony Gonzales (TX-23) and Jason Crow (CO-06). “We must continue to improve the program and ensure the best possible care.”
“The last thing our veterans should have to worry about is filling out paperwork,” said Representative Davis. “We can and must allow the men and women who nearly died for this country to access the resources necessary to apply for assistance through the Caregivers Program. This bipartisan, bicameral bill is one step towards fulfilling this country’s promise to our heroes in eastern North Carolina and across the country.”
The CARE Act is endorsed by Wounded Warrior Project, Quality of Life Foundation, and Elizabeth Dole Foundation.
