SAN ANTONIO, TX – Congressman Tony Gonzales (TX-23) today issued the following statement after photos were released showing the overcrowding of border facilities in Donna, Texas. The photos were released by Axios and reveal severely crowded, makeshift conditions at temporary facilities.
“I have been sounding the alarm for weeks urging the Biden Administration to take this crisis seriously,” said Congressman Gonzales. “I hope these photos finally wake them up. I’ll continue to urge our administration to give border patrol, HHS and law enforcement the resources they need to combat this crisis otherwise facilities like these will continue to pop up and the situation will only deteriorate. We must also be compassionate and treat these children as more than just statistics or examples in a photo. As a father of six, I think every day about the stories I hear from these children when I have visited facilities that house them. Until the open border rhetoric stops, these shelters will be prevalent.”
