SAN ANTONIO, TX – Congressman Tony Gonzales (TX-23) and Rey Saldaña, President of Communities in Schools (CIS), toured Edison High School and South San High School- their respective alma maters- with school leadership, students, and CIS staff. The objective of these joint visits was to discuss federal funding efforts to improve wrap-around services like tutoring, after-school programs, college prep, nutrition, and mental health support.
“As a father of 6, I know that our children’s success goes beyond the classroom,” said Congressman Gonzales. “Thank you to Rey for joining me today to help highlight the work of CIS in helping students stay in school and succeed. I will continue to be a strong advocate for these programs in Congress.”

Congressman Gonzales has supported CIS by helping introduce the Community Serving Schools Act that would authorize $1 billion in grants for programs like CIS.
