SAN ANTONIO, TX - Congressman Tony Gonzales (TX-23) announced $5,998,130 in funding for The University of Texas Health Science Center and Texas A&M University-San Antonio to expand educational opportunities for Hispanic students. Grants will be awarded in the following amounts:
- $2,998,130 for the University of Texas Health Science Center in San Antonio: The University of Texas Health Science Center received a Developing Hispanic-Serving Institutions (DHSI) Grant in the amount of $599,626 ($2,998,130 total) per year for five years. The DHSI Program provides grants to assist HSIs to expand educational opportunities for, and improve the attainment of, Hispanic students. These grants also enable HSIs to expand and enhance their academic offerings, program quality, and institutional stability.
- $3,000,000 for Texas A&M University- San Antonio: Texas A&M University-San Antonio received the Promoting Postbaccalaureate Opportunities for Hispanic Americans (PPoHA) Program Grant in the amount of $600,000 per year for five years ($3 million total). The PPOHA Program provides grants to expand postbaccalaureate educational opportunities for, and improve the academic attainment of, Hispanic students; and expand the postbaccalaureate academic offerings as well as enhance the program quality in the institutions of higher education that are educating the majority of Hispanic college students and helping large numbers of Hispanic and low-income students complete postsecondary degrees.
