EAGLE PASS, TX – Congressman Tony Gonzales (TX-23) announced $500,000 in grant funding from the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) for the Maverick County Hospital District Diabetes Unit. In 2021, Congressman Gonzales helped secure these funds for the Diabetes Access and Wellness Network (DAWN) through his position on the House Appropriations Committee.

“Maverick County has one of the highest rates of diabetes in Texas,” said Congressman Gonzales. “That’s why I am proud to have helped secure critical funding to improve treatment and education for diabetes patients in this area. Thank you to HHS for investing in healthcare for our rural communities.”

Specifically, funding for DAWN will be used to increase access to Diabetes Self-Management Education services through telehealth service expansion and through the launch of a digital Community Health Information Exchange (CHIE).
