WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, Congressman Tony Gonzales (TX-23) released the following statement after voting to advance the FY26 Homeland Security Appropriations package to the full House Appropriations Committee. Congressman Gonzales played a key role in crafting this year’s homeland security budget through his seat on the House Committee on Appropriations Subcommittee on Homeland Security.
“To defend our country against threats posed by terrorists, criminals, and foreign adversaries, we need resources to back up our men and women on the front lines. Tonight, our homeland security budget cleared the first action needed to move forward in Congress,” said Congressman Tony Gonzales. “From more funding for border security and the detention and swift removal of criminal illegal aliens, to enhancing resources to detect and counter the spread of fentanyl, this bill delivers on our promise to prioritize Americans’ safety.”
The House Committee on Appropriations Subcommittee on Homeland Security is responsible for allocating funding for the Department of Homeland Security’s (DHS) budget, including funding for U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP), U.S. Secret Service (USSS), U.S. Customs and Immigration Enforcement (ICE), and the U.S. Coast Guard (USCG). The FY26 Homeland Security Appropriations package is slated to come before the full House Appropriations Committee for final committee passage on Thursday, clearing this step allows the bill to move forward to the House floor.
Congressman Gonzales represents the largest border district in the U.S. House of Representatives, his district spans over 823 miles of the Texas-Mexico border from Eagle Pass to El Paso.
