PICTURED: Congressman Tony Gonzales at the Texas-Mexico border in El Paso, Texas
El PASO, TEXAS – On Saturday, Congressman Tony Gonzales was on the ground in El Paso, Texas, to receive updates from the Department of Defense (DOD) and Border Patrol on border security efforts in the region. Biggs Army Airfield, located on Fort Bliss in El Paso, is currently being used to assist Immigrations and Customs Enforcement (ICE) with deportation efforts ordered by the Trump administration.
“In one week, President Trump has done more to advance our homeland security agenda than President Biden did in four years. Texas was ground zero for the border crisis. As migrants poured into our communities and overwhelmed our infrastructure, the federal government was nowhere to be found. El Paso relies on cross-border trade, commerce, and tourism, but just over a year ago, migrant crossings got so bad in El Paso that rail operations between the U.S. and Mexico were suspended so that CBP personnel could process migrants. There is nothing humane about letting millions of people into our country without a plan or proper vetting—it only leads to further problems down the line. The days of chaos and lawlessness prevailing at our borders are over,” said Congressman Tony Gonzales. “1,500 troops are being deployed across the southern border, while deportation flights have resumed under the Trump administration. Fort Bliss is leading the way in these operations—it’s all hands on deck to get our country back on track.”
