WASHINGTON, D.C.—Congressman Tony Gonzales (TX-23) released the below statement following today’s vote on the second package of FY24 funding bills, which includes appropriations for the Department of Homeland Security (DHS).

“I have lost faith in President Biden's ability to safeguard our country and secure our borders,” said Congressman Tony Gonzales. “My district spans 800 miles of the southern border—the border crisis is in our backyard. I’m not voting for a bill that gives more money to DHS to do more of the same—there needs to be significant policy changes to restrict illegal immigration. I helped craft H.R. 2, the strongest border security legislation in decades. The funding package presented to us on the House floor today is woefully inadequate. It does nothing to fix asylum loopholes, end catch and release, or stop the abuse of paroling authorities by the Biden administration. We can and must do better—our national security is at stake."
