SAN ANTONIO, TX – On Wednesday, Congressman Tony Gonzales (TX-23) hosted the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) Secretary, Denis McDonough, in San Antonio, Texas. Congressman Gonzales and Secretary McDonough held a roundtable conversation with local veterans and community leaders to discuss ways to enhance veteran care services, modernize VA care facilities, and strengthen the historic investments made by the PACT Act for treating veterans exposed to hazardous waste from working with burn pits and other toxic substances. Additionally, Congressman Gonzales and Secretary McDonough toured the Audie L. Murphy Memorial VA Hospital and Northwest San Antonio VA Clinic.
“As a 20-year Navy veteran, I have made it a top priority to ensure our nation’s veterans have access to the best quality of care. Those who sacrificed on and off the battlefield have earned these benefits,” said Congressman Gonzales. “Yesterday’s roundtable discussion with VA Secretary McDonough and local San Antonio veterans was incredibly productive. We were able to promote the bipartisan PACT Act, which was signed into law in August. This legislation will expand resources to over 3 million eligible veterans who have suffered health ailments from hazardous waste and exposure to toxic substances. It was important for me to get him in front of our community and see the critical services our VA facilities provide around the clock to take care of our veterans. I look forward to continuing my partnership with Secretary McDonough to deliver results for our nation’s veteran community and ensure they have access to the care they need.”
