Today, Congressman Tony Gonzales (TX-23) announced he submitted a $4.6 million community project funding request to the House Appropriations Committee, of which Congressman Gonzales is a member, to bolster school safety and security for North East Independent School District (NEISD) in San Antonio. This funding will go towards school safety and security infrastructure upgrades, training for NEISD law enforcement, and essential equipment to protect students in the event of an emergency.

“Each year, every Member of Congress is welcome to submit community project funding requests to the House Appropriations Committee. These targeted investments have opened doors for towns, villages, and cities across America to deliver initiatives that make a difference in the communities they serve,” said Congressman Tony Gonzales. “This year, I selected a community project request from NEISD’s Police Department to enhance school safety and security across NEISD schools. Protecting our kids in the classroom is a top priority of mine. In Congress, I’ve helped deliver millions of dollars to school districts across South and West Texas and the nation to improve school safety. Through my seat on the House Appropriations Committee, I look forward to working in Congress to get this funding over the finish line and deliver for NEISD.”

“North East ISD wants to be the best district at the prevention of school violence, but is also committed to implementing additional layers of security that strengthen the protection, response, and safe recovery should a tragic situation arise,” said Dr. Sean Maika, Superintendent.“Congressman Gonzales reached out to see how he could help improve school safety, and the community project funding request he selected will allow us to respond more quickly and effectively to active shooters, improve officer safety and training as well as provide necessary resources for campus response.”
